In response to the demands for high-quality development within the steel industry, electric arc furnace technology is advancing towards larger-scale, intelligent, and low-carbon operations. The capacity of large ultra-high-power electric arc furnaces has surpassed 400 tonnes, significantly increasing single-furnace output. Intelligent control systems enable full-process automation from charging to tapping, achieving molten steel composition accuracy exceeding 99%. Furthermore, electric arc furnaces incorporating new technologies such as hydrogen-based smelting and carbon capture hold promise for achieving near-zero emissions in the future.
In application domains, electric arc furnaces are no longer confined to ordinary steel production, finding increasingly widespread use in high-end products such as high-strength steel, weathering steel, and electrical steel. With the refinement of China’s scrap steel recycling system and the rising proportion of clean energy, the short-process steelmaking enabled by electric arc furnaces will undoubtedly play an increasingly vital role in the green transformation of the steel industry, contributing to the establishment of a resource-efficient and environmentally friendly industrial system.
